A consistent investment in research and development (R&D) and a willingness to customize products for specific end uses has contributed to Mirotone’s business success. The head office R&D laboratories for Mirotone and the combined Polycure/APS businesses are both located in Sydney where teams of dedicated chemists work on a range of products needed for the international market.
Mirotone is committed to producing top quality products that meet international standards for furniture and wood products. To this end Mirotone:
- maintains a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited laboratory to ISO 17025,
- is certified to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 Quality Systems for design and manufacturing,
- is an approved manufacturing unit under the Australian Paint Approval Scheme (APAS), and
- is a member of various related industry associations
All of the products developed in R&D undergo stringent testing to Australian and International standards. The Furniture Industry Association of Australia (FIAA) runs a Quality Program in conjunction with Australian Furniture Research & Development Institute (Furntech AFRDI), which has been adopted as a test regime for all products within Mirotone. Additional tests are added according to the end use of the products.
Mirotone also undertakes testing by external institutes where the equipment or methodology required is very specialised. These include Fire Testing, Toxicity Testing for Children’s Toys & Nursery Furniture, Pedestrian Slip Testing and Marine Fire Ratings.
Mirotone has five laboratories within its group: Mirotone Sydney (Head office Central R&D laboratory); APS/Polycure Sydney; Wellington NZ; Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and Bangkok Thailand. The 20 + fully qualified chemists within these laboratories have many years experience within the paint industry. Members of R&D staff actively participate in industry related committees such as Surface Coatings Association Australia (SCAA), Australian Paint Manufacturers Federation (APMF), Standards Australia (Methods of Test for Paint – AS 1580 series of test methods), NATA Surface Coatings Advisory Committee.
Mirotone is proud of its technical capabilities and standing within the industry. It is proud of its reputation for developing a range of innovative quality coatings and supplying products of consistent high quality. The group laboratories work together to create products suitable for many climatic conditions and end uses and each new coating is fully tested against a strict test regime before release to the market place. |
