Patchy Gloss Levels
High and low gloss spots in the finished coating.
Cause
Preventative Action
Lack of, or insufficient, dry film thickness of the sealer or undercoat causing the topcoat to soak into the wood substrate. Gloss levels will be lower where the open grain of the wood soaks up the topcoat versus the higher gloss on the sealed or undercoated areas of the substrate.
Do not sand through the sealer or undercoat and expose the substrate.
Apply all Mirotone coating systems to the approved coating system Wet Film Thickness as per the instructions on the relevant product data sheet.
Uneven application of the coating will result in an uneven film. When dry it may result in different gloss levels, also known as 'Banding'.
Apply all Mirotone coatings to the correct Film Thickness as per instructions on the product data sheet. Ensure correct spray application techniques are used.
Over thinning the coating will result in a low film build which may lead to a patchy uneven appearance.
Use only the correct MIROSOL thinners and thin as per instructions on the relevant product data sheet.
