A Guide to Problem Solving - The Application of Interior Wood Coatings
You got here from Home/Group/English/PRODUCTS/Problem Solving Guide
Opacity
The ability of the coating to cover the colour difference of the substrate or the previous coat. Poor opacity will allow the substrate or previous coating to "grin" through at least two pigmented topcoats.
Cause
Preventative Action
Coating over thinned.
Reduce Mirotone coatings as per instructions on the relevant product data sheet to achieve the correct spraying viscosity. If required upgrade spray application equipment to spray a more viscous coating system sucessfully.
Application over an unsuitably coloured undercoat.
Choose an undercoat colour suitable for the intended topcoat colour. All Mirotone pigmented coating systems have black or white undercoats. Mix black and white undercoats to produce a grey coloured undercoat suitable for use under the selected topcoat colour. Alternatively contact Mirotone regarding the availability of a tinted undercoat.
Coating inadequately stirred prior to application.
Always thoroughly stir Mirotone coatings prior to application preferably using a power stirrer. Alternatively use a 20mm wide stirring stick, use a lifting motion while stirring to mix in the contents at the bottom of the can.
Low coating film build.
Apply all Mirotone coatings to the correct Wet Film Thickness as per the instructions on the relevant product data sheet. Apply sufficient coating over sharp edges to achieve correct wet film thickness over the whole coated area.
Incorrect thinner added.
Use only the correct MIROSOL thinner as per the relevant product data sheet.
Lack of undercoat.
Apply all Mirotone coatings as per the approved coating system instructions on the relevant product data sheet.
Bright and strong colours are inherently transparent.
Apply suitable coloured undercoat as per approved coating system on the relevant product data sheet.
