Mirotone began its life in a suburban backyard in Sydney in 1935 and incorporated as a company in 1938. It started with production of wood lacquers such as shellac. Since then it has grown into an Australian-based multinational group that has expanded around the Asia-Pacific region and other select markets.
Mirotone is renowned for cutting edge technology and a growing range of quality industrial wood coating products. Its slogan ‘Leading the Way’ reflects its consistent determination to be the leader in its field. A consistent investment in research and development (R & D) and a willingness to customise products for particular users has contributed to the business success of its customers.
Still privately owned, Mirotone’s growth has been via a mixture or organic growth in existing markets, expansion internationally, and by acquisition. The acquisition of Polycure Pty Ltd and Australian Printers Supplies Pty Ltd (APS) has ensured a sound business group which will continue to expand and increase its significance in the industrial coatings marketplace.
Its technical strength is underpinned by a strong research group of industrial chemists, many at the central research laboratory in Sydney, others providing local technical expertise distributed around the various companies of the Mirotone group.
In Australia, Mirotone has manufacturing plants at Revesby in Sydney’s south-western suburbs and at its subsidiary Australian Printers Supplies at Chipping Norton in Sydney. Mirotone also has manufacturing plants in New Zealand and Malaysia and a joint venture operation in Thailand. In addition, Mirotone exports coatings into a number of markets including the USA, China, Chile, Philippines and India.
