Established in 1938, Mirotone is the leading supplier to industry of surface coatings to protect and beautify interior wood and wood related products.  Our coatings are used extensively in domestic, architectural, and commercial applications.  These include furniture, pre-finished panels and flooring, wall units, picture frames, mouldings, toys, bedroom units, kitchens and vanity units.

Mirotone has products suitable for application by Spray, Curtain Coating, Roller Coating, Vacuum Coating and Dipping.  Mirotone’s coating application laboratory in Sydney is equipped with a spray booth, two roller coating lines to apply and instantly cure UV coatings, a curtain coater and a vacuum coater. As part of Mirotone’s service offering, our technical staff can simulate various production environments, application processes and coating systems.

To provide fast response for practical coating issues, Mirotone maintains extensive laboratory facilities with as many as 30 industrial chemists and technical service staff.  Many of these are at Head Office in Sydney with further laboratory support in Malaysia, New Zealand and Thailand.  Mirotone’s Australian Research and Development and Quality Control laboratories are both accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA Accreditation No. 865).  Through significant investment in R&D, and partnership with overseas technical associates, Mirotone boasts the most comprehensive range of interior wood coatings in Australia.    Our product range includes Putties, Woodfillers and Stains, conventional Nitrocellulose Lacquers, Precatalysed Lacquers, Two Pack Acid Catalysed Lacquers, Two-pack Polyurethane Coatings, Polyester Coatings, Ultraviolet Light (UV) cured coatings and Water Based Stains and Lacquers.

Mirotone’s product development program rigorously tests all new coatings and recommended coating systems to confirm that they will not only look good immediately after application but will also perform very well in service.  The test program assesses adhesion, flexibility, colour stability, chemical resistance, impact and abrasion resistance, wet and dry heat resistance and yellowing.  Mirotone’s test methods include a combination of Australian standards and other international standards or proprietary in-house test methods.  The result of such testing is confidence that a coating system will not fail prematurely in service.

Mirotone’s advanced colour matching system encompasses the use of spectrophotometers and sophisticated colour matching software.  This system enables Mirotone to consistently predict and match new colours to a very fine tolerance.  Mirotone’s wide area network (WAN) enables Mirotone to provide an efficient colour matching service nationally.

Mirotone acquired Polycure Pty Ltd in April 1993.  Polycure is Australia’s market leader in the development and supply of in-situ applied coatings for interior timber floors.  Polycure’s coating range includes both moisture cure and two pack Polyurethane coatings, Water based coatings, oil finishes and other specialty coatings for floors.

Mirotone’s Australian quality management system is certified to AS/NZS/ISO 9001 standard.  Our Malaysian subsidiary is accredited to ISO9002.

Communities are now paying more attention to environmental issues such as VOC emissions (volatile organic compounds) and internal air quality.  Mirotone has put considerable effort into developing new products to improve working conditions for coating applicators and their customers alike.    Mirotone acts responsibly in its attitude to environmental care. Its research effort is focussed on the formulation of products with lower levels of VOC’s and other hazardous emissions.  These new developments include Water Based Coatings, High Solids Conventional Coatings, Aromatic Free solvent blends and 100% solids UV-Curable coatings.  Mirotone pioneered the development of 100% solids (VOC free) ultraviolet light cured Coatings and is a world leader in this specialised coating technology.  These UV coatings may be formulated with excellent physical properties and have the benefit of instant dry.

Mirotone’s quality wood coatings are manufactured and marketed in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia and in many other countries of the world.  Our subsidiary in the USA successfully markets UV coatings and competes very successfully against some of the largest coating companies in the world due to our superior Australian developed coating technology.
